Jameos del Agua, Lanzarote, Canary Islands:
The land of the blind albino crabs
Lanzarote is the most northern of the Canary Islands. While researching what to do there, I was fascinated by this artist César Manrique who created beautiful artworks which lie in harmony with nature all over the island. His works are super creative and a bit wacky and remind me a lot of Gaudi in Barcelona.
Here is one of the attractions, the beautiful Jameos del Agua. Enjoy the pics! 🙂
As soon as you enter Jameos del Agua, you walk down these steep, stoney steps and enter into a beautiful cafe designed in a lava tube cave and then you keep walking to see a crystal clear blue lagoon (lit only by a hole in the ‘ceiling’ and the entrance and exit points), which is the world’s only place which houses blind albino microscopic crabs. Once you finish looking at this incredible lagoon inside a dark and cool cave, you come out into the bright hot sun and are faced with the bluest water ever. Nobody is allowed to enter to keep it pristine. It’s so blue it looks almost fake! It is surrounded by palm trees and cactii creating a beautiful oasis.
This scene reminded me of those American road trip movies filmed in the middle of nowhere
